Young innovators from NIPS Zainapora secure second prize and ₹70,000 award at JKEDI’s prestigious “Idea to Impact” event in Samba

SHOPIAN, January 30: In a proud moment for the district, four bright students from Shopian brought home the Second Prize at the Union Territory–level event “Idea to Impact: Annual Startup Mela 2026,” held at the JKEDI Campus in Bari Brahmana, Samba.
The talented team — Mantasha Nazir, Eliz
a Bhat, Hurain Farooq, and Pakeeza Hilal — represented National Innovations Public School (NIPS), Zainapora. They earned top recognition in the Startup Idea Challenge for their innovative project titled “Cotton Comfort.” The concept stood out among entries from across Jammu & Kashmir for its practicality, sustainability, and strong social impact.
Their achievement was recognized with a cash prize of ₹70,000, presented by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah, who praised the students for their creativity, forward-thinking approach, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Officials highlighted that this success reflects the continuous efforts of JKEDI District Centre Shopian in promoting innovation at the grassroots level. Through awareness programmes, mentorship sessions, innovation workshops, and startup boot camps, young minds are being guided to turn ideas into real-world ventures and consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path.
The school administration also played a key role in shaping the students’ journey. Principal Mr. Lateef, along with Chief Coordinator Mr. Shahid Manzoor and Ms. Misbah, provided dedicated mentorship, helping the team refine their concept and prepare for the prestigious UT-level competition.
The victory of these young innovators showcases the rising culture of creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills among students in Shopian. JKEDI officials expressed immense pride in the achievement and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the district’s growing startup ecosystem.
The recognition of “Cotton Comfort” at such a significant platform not only adds another milestone to Shopian’s accomplishments but also cements its place as an emerging hub of innovation and young entrepreneurial talent in Jammu & Kashmir.
