War Against Drugs Continues: Shopian Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Recover 5 Kg Cannabis

Accused nabbed during naka checking at Heerpora; police say crackdown on narcotics across Kashmir will intensify Syrier Dar, Shopian, January 16: In continuation of its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have arrested a drug peddler and recovered five kilograms of cannabis-like substance during a naka checking operation at Dachnoo, Heerpora. Officials said a police party from Police Station Heerpora, while conducting routine checking, noticed a person moving under suspicious circumstances. The individual was tactfully apprehended and, upon search, cannabis-like substance weighing approximately 5 kg was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Aslam Kalas, a resident of Devpora, Shopian. Subsequently, a case FIR No. 06/2026 under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Heerpora. Shopian District Makes GPS Tracking Mandatory for Vehicles Engaged in Mineral Extraction

AIS-140 compliant devices to be installed by January 20 to curb illegal mining and ensure transparency Syrier Dar, SHOPIAN, Jan 12:In a move aimed at strengthening monitoring mechanisms and preventing illegal mining, the District Mineral Office (DMO) Shopian has made it mandatory to install GPS tracking devices on all vehicles and machinery involved in mineral extraction and transportation within the district. The directive has been issued in compliance with instructions from the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Jammu and Kashmir, and in line with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) guidelines issued in 2020. The step is intended to enhance transparency, ensure effective supervision, and check unauthorized mining activities. According to the order, all mineral concessionaires, crusher unit operators, brick kiln holders, and vehicle owners operating in District Shopian must install AIS-140 approved GPS tracking devices.
