Shopian Police Conclude Knockout T10 Cricket Tournament for Specially-Abled Players

Inclusive sporting initiative under Civic Action Programme promotes confidence, equality and community participation

Shopian, January 08: In a heartening display of inclusivity and community engagement, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian on Wednesday successfully concluded a Knockout T10 Cricket Tournament for specially-abled persons at Batapora Stadium, Shopian. Organised under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme (CAP), the tournament aimed to promote confidence, social integration, and the overall well-being of specially-abled individuals through sports.

The tournament, which commenced on December 27, 2025, witnessed enthusiastic participation from four teams representing different parts of south Kashmir. The participating teams included Shopian Tigers, South Kashmir Anantnag, Star Cricketers Shopian, and Kulgam Cricket Club. Throughout the competition, players demonstrated remarkable determination, discipline, and sportsmanship, turning the event into a celebration of talent and resilience.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Sh. Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary-JKPS, who appreciated the courage and enthusiasm of the players. He emphasised that sports have the power to break barriers, foster inclusion, and empower individuals from all sections of society. The SSP encouraged the participants to continue pursuing sports as a means of personal growth and social connection.

The tournament reached its climax with an exciting final match between Shopian Tigers and Star Cricketers Shopian. In a closely watched encounter, Shopian Tigers delivered an impressive performance to secure victory by 41 runs. The final match drew a large number of spectators, including sports enthusiasts, local residents, and community members from Shopian and adjoining areas, adding to the festive atmosphere at the stadium.


During the colourful closing ceremony, SSP Shopian distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winning and runner-up teams. He also felicitated players for their outstanding performances and appreciated the collective efforts of all teams for making the tournament a grand success. The event highlighted not only competitive spirit but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and mutual respect.

Addressing the gathering, SSP Choudhary reaffirmed the commitment of Shopian Police to continue organising such inclusive sporting events in the future. He said that the Civic Action Programme is focused on strengthening the bond between the police and the public while encouraging positive engagement, especially among vulnerable sections of society.

“The enthusiasm shown by these players is truly inspiring. Shopian Police will continue to support such initiatives that promote confidence, self-belief, and social inclusion among specially-abled persons,” he said.

Participants and local residents lauded the initiative, stating that such platforms provide specially-abled individuals an opportunity to showcase their abilities and interact with the wider community. Many expressed hope that similar tournaments would be organised regularly to nurture talent and promote inclusivity in sports.

The successful conclusion of the Knockout T10 Cricket Tournament stands as a testament to the role of sports in fostering unity and empowerment, reinforcing the message that ability, determination, and passion transcend physical limitations.
