Patriotic Spirit Soars on Day Two of Vande Mataram Celebrations in Shopian

Cultural performances at GDC Shopian and HSS Zainapora mark 150 years of the national song

SHOPIAN, January 20: Patriotic fervour marked the second day of the week-long celebrations commemorating Phase-II of 150 years of Vande Mataram in Shopian, with a vibrant cultural programme held at the Auditorium Hall of Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian on Monday.

The event was organised as part of the celebrations scheduled from January 19 to 26 and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and officials. Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr Nasir Ahmed Lone, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Lone highlighted the historical and emotional significance of Vande Mataram in India’s freedom movement and nation-building. He stressed the crucial role of youth in fostering national unity, harmony and a strong sense of patriotism, urging students to uphold the values symbolised by the national song.

The cultural programme featured a series of patriotic songs, speeches and folk performances presented by students from various educational institutions. The performances infused the auditorium with enthusiasm and national pride, drawing applause from the audience.

The event was attended by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammed Ashraf, Chief Education Officer Bashir Ahmed Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Shopian, representatives of YSSO, faculty members, officers from different departments, and a large number of students.

As part of the same week-long celebrations, similar cultural programmes were also organised at Higher Secondary School Zainapora. Students there showcased a variety of cultural items reflecting themes of patriotism, national unity and collective harmony.

The celebrations aim to honour the legacy of Vande Mataram and inspire the younger generation to remain committed to the ideals of unity, patriotism and national integration.
