DGP J&K Reviews Security Situation, Anti-Terror Operations at DPO Shopian Ahead of Republic Day

Stresses heightened alertness, zero tolerance towards anti-national elements, and people-friendly policing to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations

SHOPIAN, January 21: Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Nalin Prabhat, IPS, on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive security review meeting at the Conference Hall of the District Police Office (DPO), Shopian, to assess the prevailing security scenario and review ongoing anti-terror operations ahead of Republic Day–2026.

The meeting was attended by Special DGP Coordination Shri S.J.M. Gillani, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Shri V.K. Birdi, IPS, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir Range Shri Javaid Iqbal Matoo, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, JKPS, along with other gazetted officers and Station House Officers (SHOs of the district.

During the meeting, the DGP conducted a detailed assessment of law and order arrangements, counter-terrorism preparedness, crime control measures, and security plans for the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations. He laid emphasis on maintaining heightened vigilance, ensuring foolproof security mechanisms, strengthening area domination, and intensifying intelligence-based operations to thwart any attempt aimed at disturbing peace and public order in the district.

The DGP directed officers to remain proactive and alert, particularly in sensitive areas, and to ensure seamless coordination among various security agencies. He reiterated that there would be zero tolerance towards anti-national and subversive elements posing a threat to peace, security, and public safety. Sustained and focused operations against such elements, he said, must continue with full professionalism.

While underscoring the importance of firm action against terrorism and related activities, Shri Nalin Prabhat also stressed the need for a people-friendly policing approach. He urged officers to strengthen public confidence by remaining accessible, responsive, and fair in their dealings with citizens.

The DGP appreciated the efforts of Shopian Police in maintaining law and order and called upon all ranks to continue working with dedication, discipline, and commitment to uphold the rule of law. He expressed confidence that with proper planning and coordinated efforts, peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations would be ensured across the district.
