Terms snowfall ‘much needed’, strongly reiterates demand for restoration of statehood
Shopian, Jan — Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary on Tuesday visited District Shopian to review the situation following the recent snowfall and assess the functioning of essential services in the area.
During the visit, the Deputy CM interacted with district officials and took stock of road connectivity, power supply, and overall preparedness to deal with weather-related challenges. He directed the concerned departments to remain vigilant and ensure that public inconvenience is minimized.
Addressing the media, Surinder Chaudhary described the recent snowfall as “much needed”, particularly for agriculture, horticulture, and water resources. He extended greetings to the people, expressing hope that the snowfall would prove beneficial for the farming community.
“The snowfall is important for our ecology and economy. However, the administration must ensure that normal life is not disrupted and relief reaches people on time,” he said.
The Deputy CM also strongly reiterated the demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the region deserves its rightful constitutional status.
“Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded to a Union Territory. We firmly believe that full statehood must be restored to respect the aspirations and democratic rights of the people,” Chaudhary asserted.
He said the issue of statehood remains a core political commitment and assured that efforts would continue at all appropriate forums.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by the administration to normalize services following intermittent snowfall across the district.
