DC, SSP Conduct Foot March in Shopian Amid Heavy Snowfall

District administration reviews snow clearance, power restoration, and public safety measures

Shopian, Friday: Amid ongoing heavy snowfall, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, along with Senior Superintendent of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Chaudhary, conducted a foot march across various parts of Shopian town on Friday to assess the ground situation and ensure public safety.

During the foot march, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with local residents, reviewed the progress of snow clearance operations, and took stock of the availability of essential services. Speaking to the media, the DC congratulated the people of Shopian on the season’s first major spell of snowfall, describing it as beneficial for agriculture and water resources.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that around 90 percent of the main roads in the district have already been cleared, facilitating smooth movement of essential traffic. He assured that restoration of link roads will be taken up on priority once the snowfall subsides.

On the electricity front, the DC said that power restoration work is underway, with teams working round-the-clock to restore supply in affected areas at the earliest. He added that all concerned departments have been placed on high alert to effectively deal with any eventuality arising from the harsh weather conditions.

The foot march was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shopian, DySP Headquarters Shopian, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), along with other senior district and police officials.

Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall, and strictly follow advisories issued from time to time to ensure safety.
