Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari Visits Shopian, Offers Condolences; Raises Snowfall Preparedness, Growers’ Losses

Calls for compensation to fruit growers affected over past three years

Shopian, Jan — Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday visited Imam Sahib area of Shopian to express condolences to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Fakhruddin Mohiuddin, following the demise of his father, who passed away a few days ago.

During the condolence visit, Altaf Bukhari met the bereaved family and offered prayers for eternal peace to the departed soul, expressing solidarity in this moment of grief.

While speaking to the media on the sidelines of the visit, the Apni Party chief also voiced serious concern over what he termed as the administration’s unpreparedness during the recent snowfall across parts of south Kashmir. He said that timely planning and better coordination could have reduced hardships faced by the general public, especially in rural and hilly areas.

“The snowfall was predictable, yet the response on the ground was not up to the mark. Essential services, road clearance, and power supply restoration need better preparedness,” Bukhari said.

He further emphasized the need for the government to compensate fruit growers, stating that the horticulture sector has suffered repeated losses over the last three years due to adverse weather conditions and inadequate support mechanisms.

“Growers are under immense financial stress. Compensation and a long-term policy framework are essential to safeguard their livelihoods,” he added.

The Apni Party President urged the administration to take immediate steps to address the concerns of orchardists and ensure better disaster management planning in the future.
