Closure Of Historical Mugal Road Led Protests At Heer pora Shopian

Mugal road which connects Shopian with Rajouri and Poonch has been closed since Nov 2019 and has not been resumed for the general public till now. However, 

The protesters demanded opening of the Mugal road as soon as possible and they added only two months has been left for vehicular movement as the road witnesses heavy snow fall and used to remain closed from November. The protesters said that However, the Govt has resumed air traffic as well as NH44 but why Mugal road is still closed for general vehicular movements. The drivers who used to run their passenger vehicles through this road Are being hit badly and now they appeal to the Govt to allow the Mugal road for general vehicular traffic.

larger numbers of drivers today assembled on Historical Mughal Road near Heerpora village and staged a Protest against the Administration over not allowing local Drivers to ply their vehicles on the Road.Drivers said that administration has different excuses for us.

Aijaz Ahmad a local Sarpanch of the area who was part of the protest said that the drivers are facing many problems as they had not earn a single penny from March in Covid days. He further said that although District administration has given them permission but that was only for few days and after that they didn't allow them to ply their vehicles on the road. Sarpanch warns local Administration that if in two days permission will not be given they will Block all the Traffic and District administration will be responsible for that.

District Administration Ponch and Shopian are not allowing these Drivers to ply from Heerpora to Poonch or upto Pir ki Gali."We are in financial problem and no one cares about us" said another Driver.

Meanwhile, BJP vice president Sofi Mohd Yousuf said that the recent package 84 cores for Development of Mugal road is a welcome and developing step and said that they will take the closure of Mugal road with state administration soon.
