TKS Report:

New Delhi: It’s not for the first time that the Islamic preachers and scholar Dr Zakir Naik is in headlines and this time for the reason that the terrorists who attacked Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka and killed 20 innocent people mostly foreigners were his followers.

The Maharashtra government has ordered a probe into Naik’s speeches that were reported to have inspired some of the Dhaka attackers. The New Delhi has assured to take “appropriate action” against him after studying his speeches.

While defending himself Naik has released a short video in which he “totally disagreed” that he inspired the terror act in Dhaka.  He say that “There is not a single talk of mine where I encouraged one to kill another, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.”

In the video Naik has insisted that he has a large following and every action of his follower cannot be attributed to him. The video conveys his stance on Dhaka and the killing on innocent people.

He say that he is not shocked because “more than 90 per cent of Bangladeshis know me, more than 50 percent are my flowers”

The statements, which the media has quoted “every Muslim should be a terrorist and his talk on Osama bin Ladin” of which Dr Naik has clamed that the video about Osama bin Ladin is doctored and the statement about every Muslim being terrorist is a half sentence and is being quoted out of context.

A deputy minister Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who oversees Islamic affairs in Malaysia, cast doubt on reports that controversial Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik had asked Muslims to be terrorists, saying that such a claim should first be verified.

He said any Muslim preacher would know that acts of violence and harm are against the principles of Islam.

He further said that it would be “premature to assume” that a scholar of considerable repute like Dr Zakir would advocate terrorism.

Mr. Digvijaya Singh, who in a video of 2012 is seen, praising Dr. Naik, defended himself, saying if there was any evidence against the preacher, then the Indian and Bangladeshi governments should take action.

On the other hand Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said there was no place for obscurantist and extremist thoughts

In a process of investigation the Mumbai police on Wednesday questioned office bearers of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), of which Naik is founder.

Dr Naik is expected to return to India on 11 July who is currently in Saudi Arabia on a religious trip.
