SYEED’S POLITICAL JOURNEY BEGINS
He joined the Democratic National
Conference, a splinter group of the National Conference formed by Gulam Mohamad

ELECTED TO J&K ASSEMBLY
He was elected from Bijbiharato
the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative assembly. He retained the seat for ten
years
1967
DEPUTY MINISTER IN GM SADIQ GOVT
At this point, Sayeed was doing
well in politics and he was appointed deputy minister. A few years later
though, he left DNC and joined the Congress
1972
STATE MINISTER IN CONGRESS GOVT
Sayeed was also made President of
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and leader of Congress Legislature Party.
1977 - 1983
STRING OF POLITICAL DEFEATS
Mufti Sayeed was the J&K PCC
president at the time when Congress lost 1977 & 1983 elections.

Mufti Sayeed was the J&K PCC

SAYEED LEAVES CONGRESS, JOINS JAN MORCHA
After Rajiv Gandhi signed the
Gandhi-Abdullah accord in 1987, Mufti left Congress and joined VP Singh’s Jan
Morcha.

was made Home Minister

PDP FOUNDED
Sayeed along with his daughter
Mehbooba Mufti formed his own party
2002 - 2005
FIRST STINT AS JAMMU AND KASHMIR CM
Sayeeds political career soared
after the formation of PDP and he served as J&K CM from 2002 to 2005

SWORN-IN AS CM FOR THE SECOND TIME
PDP in alliance with BJP formed
the government in J&K after the state poll in 2014.

ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL
Sayeed was admitted to AIIMS
hospital in New Delhi. He was suffering form neck pain and fever.
January 7, 2016
MUFTI SAYEED PASSES AWAY
He was 79 years old when he passed
away at 7.30 am in the hospital.
